14 years ago today I was contemplating going back to work full time. Earlier that year, my husbands 6 figure job was eliminated via email. The division he worked for was being shut down. I needed to find a way to earn income and work at home.
Ever since I was little, I wanted to be a stay at home mom when it came time for me to start a family. In the meantime though, I wanted to have a career and support myself. So I went to college, got a degree and lived on my own for many years. I knew I wanted to get married and have a family. See a post I did earlier this week about that. While I did struggle to make ends meet sometimes, I always found a way to make things work living on my own.
Becoming a Stay at home mom
Fast forward to after I met Jason and we got married. I feel very fortunate that I was able to become the stay at home mom I always wanted to be after our first daughter was born. It was about a year after our second daughter was born that my husbands job was being eliminated and I really felt like I needed to do something to contribute to our family finances.
Teaching Baby Sign Language
I had been teaching Baby Signs sign language classes but it was more to have something to do with my girls. It wasn’t a realistic way for me to make a significant income without having to teach multiple classes every day of the week. Not something I was wanting to do as a stay at home mom. I do firmly believe that teaching baby simple sign language is a great way to communicate with your baby before they can talk. The classes I taught were based on this book.
Reality Check I Needed
Thats when I decided to start interviewing. I got to the final interview for a human resources position with the city and thats when reality struck. I would likely be putting my girls into daycare all day every day while Jason and I both worked. It didn’t sit well with me. Thank goodness God had other plans. I did not get the position. It was a reality check I needed to find a way to work at home.
My entrepreneurial journey in a nutshell
I dipped my toes in the water of network marketing when I was single living in Dallas. I partnered with a weight loss vitamin company. It required quite an investment of inventory ($5000) which most of it ended up in my garage. While I did see success using their products it wasn’t something that I stuck with for more than a couple years.
I then taught Baby Signs as mentioned above and also opened an Etsy shop to sell things that I was sewing. Made some extra money with that but realized it was taking too much time away from my young daughters to behind a sewing machine all day. Thats when I decided to commit to growing my Beachbody coaching business. Find out more about my coaching journey here.
Full Circle and changes coming.
Things have kinda come full circle and I’m back to sewing with my teenage daughters, The Scrunchie Sisters. Whats cool about coaching is I don’t have to commit a ton of time to it to continue earning an income. Yes, I still use all the products, connect with my team and am gearing up for a re-launch of my business with all the changes our company will be going through in 2023. You can read about those HERE. So stay tuned for more info on what thats gonna look like in the coming weeks. One thing I know for sure, I will probably always be that mom who is a work at home mom.
Thats it for today.
Until tomorrow.
