New Years Day is always a special day in our house…not only is it the start of a new year, but we have 4 different reasons to celebrate.
The first is its Jason’s birthday. Happy Birthday honey!!
I’ve been making the girl’s birthday cakes for the last couple years so I knew I wanted to make his this year. I had received this football player cake pan in amongst all the pans I got from my mother in law and thought it would be perfect. Jason is a huge AZ Cardinals fan so it was fitting I make it a Cardinal player. This one is #40…not because he’s 40 yet, but because its Pat Tillman’s number…the AZ Cardinals player who quit the NFL after the attacks of 9/11 to join the Army Rangers where after multiple tours in combat was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004. He was a loyal Cardinal player who turned down a 5 year $9 million dollar contract from the St Louis Rams to stay with the Cardinals. RIP Pat….
The girls couldn’t wait to dive into the cake but it wouldn’t be until after Jason and I got to spend the entire afternoon together while grandma took care of the girls that we would have some.
The second reason this day is significant is because its the anniversary of Jason and I’s first date in 2002…as well as the date that we got engaged in 2004. Both of these events, as well as our “how we met” story probably deserve their own blog post!
And lastly, what everyone else is celebrating today…the start of a new year!
All our best to everyone in 2010!!! Happy New Year!!!
