I can’t believe it…my family agreed to do a group costume this year for Halloween! Its been hit or miss the last couple years because of COVID and my girls not really wanting to dress up together! But with it being my oldest daughters last Halloween at home, they’ve agreed to dress up together!! I am so happy and I can’t wait to start planning our costumes!
But for today’s post, I thought I’d take you for a trip down memory lane of some of our family costumes from years past!
Costumes through the years
My girls have always dressed up for Halloween but we never really did family Halloween costumes. It wasn’t until 2014 when my girls were Thing 1 and Thing 2, I decided to dress up as Cat in the Hat. So this was the first time we did something together.
The next year (2015) we decided to go all in and get my hubby Jason on board with a family costume! The movie Inside Out had come out a few months prior and on our trip to Disneyland over Fall Break that year we decided to make that our first official family Halloween costume. We had about 2 weeks to get everything together for this costume and it won us a “best group costume” award at our community center Halloween party!
In 2016, we ended up not doing a group costume for the community center Halloween party and we were asked several times why we didn’t dress up! Lesson learned! So the next year we decided to dress up as the Wizard of Oz. We even got our yellow lab Holly involved! This was a super fun costume and we won a group costume award for the second time with this costume in 2017.
In 2018, there wasn’t a party at our neighborhood community center. We decided to go ahead and do another group costume and go out trick or treating in the neighborhood. Our theme this year was At the Beach! Our youngest daughters jellyfish costume was the most over the top. It got a lot of compliments while out trick or treating.
And lastly, in 2019 we did this Powerpuff Girls group costume. We did this mainly because our oldest daughter and two of her friends dressed up as Powderpuff girls. All I had to do was make two shirts and find a Dr’s coat for Jason.
In 2020 and 2021, there were no Halloween parties and thus, no family costumes. So you can imagine how excited I am to be able to go full out for 2022!
