Training for a 5k in 30 days

I would not consider myself a runner AT ALL…

However, I have completed a couple half marathons and many 5ks in my adult life.  But for the most part, I usually sign up for a race then not really train for them. After the race, I would usually find myself in TONS of pain.  In fact, I even injured myself during one of these runs!

The only training I’ve really done was when I was an assistant coach for the Girls on the Run program at my daughters school and helped a group of 3rd-5th graders train for a 5k.  That program was over the course of a few months and we practiced 2 days a week after school. While it was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it for anyone that has daughters, I was not consistent about training for it other than the 2 days a week at school.

Honestly, I’ve never had a running coach or trainer tell me exactly what I needed to do to actually train for a 5k. I know there are tons of 5k and marathon training programs out there on the internet, I just never followed one!! So when I found out we were adding this to our online streaming platform of workouts, I was intrigued!!

What Kind of Workouts are Included in 30 Day Breakaway?

You’ll be doing a mix of running and resistance training 6 days a week, 20–45 minutes a day. The 30 Day Breakaway Calendar is geared toward new runners who want to get comfortable with consistent runs and eventually complete a 5K. You’ll start with three walks or runs a week and progressively build up to five, all while lifting on certain days to help build lean muscle that will help power your runs.
