Instagram Disabled My Account, Now what?

Happy Halloween!  Your Instagram account is gone!

It’s something you don’t think would ever happen to you. I never post anything that goes “against community guidelines”. But this morning, Instagram deleted or disabled my account for no apparent reason. I opened my account like I normally do to do a little scrolling and check to see what what happening in the Instagram world.  I was told that my account was disabled for 30 days. No warnings, nothing.

In that moment, I felt jaded. I couldn’t think of anything that would have caused them to disable my account.  My first thought is that it had to be a glitch.  But I didn’t know for sure. Now I don’t have some highly monetized account where my livelihood depends on my IG account. I am part of Instagram Bonus program that pays me to make reels. So not having access would be a bummer.  I was more bummed about losing all the posts and memories.

There is Hope

After a hour or two, my friend sent me an email she’d received from Instagram Expert Brock Johnson that said Instagram was down and many people were experiencing what I was.  Made me feel pretty confident that my account would be back.  Shortly thereafter, it was.

The key takeaway from this experience is that we cannot rely on social media alone.  We as small business owners and people in general, do not have control of our content once we post it out on social media.  Instagram, Facebook, Tik Tok, Snapchat…all of them, could go away tomorrow and all the connections and information posted there could be gone.

So what do you do?

I got a little taste of what that would feel like for me to lose a social media account when my Instagram got disabled. I’m thankful that I’m getting back to blogging because I know this content is safe from the social media giants. I’m on day 39 of my 100 day blogging journey! Go me!! The other thing I’m working to do is build my email list of people who want to stay in contact with me. I’d love for you to stay in touch by subscribing HERE.

Hope you and your family has a Happy Halloween! Nothing super exciting going on here except passing out candy in our neighborhood. But if you’d like to see some of our past Halloween costumes, find them HERE.  Our family didn’t dress up this year and I’m a little bummed about it but oh well. I’ll get over it!

See ya back here tomorrow.
