Never Compare Your Journey to Anyone Else’s

Sometimes when we are on a journey (a weight loss, starting a new business or climbing the corporate ladder), we compare ourselves to others. We live in a microwave society and want to see results faster than what we’re currently experiencing. We see other people experiencing crazy amounts of success and we want what they have. Its a world where everyone wants quick results right? But believe me when I say, results with anything take time and consistent action.

Compare your journey not knowing whats happening behind the scenes

Its important to remember that we are all writing our own story and each phase of our journey is a chapter of our book. While you may be just starting out and working through your first few chapters, others may be well into their book – on their on Chapter 15 or 20! So its super important to not compare ourselves to others who may be further along in their journey.
Another thing to consider is you really don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. Maybe the person you look up to is putting in 80 hours a week working their business and not getting ANY time with their family. Perhaps that fit friend who has lost a bunch of weight could be spending 2 hours a day at the gym and starving themselves with only 1000 calories a day…definitely not a healthy way to live by the way! We simply don’t know the details of peoples lives because social media only gives us their highlight reel!
So please don’t compare where you’re at on your journey with others. If you do, it will only lead you down a path of never feeling good enough. This is a lesson that has taken me some time to work through but I’ve found a way to get through it. I use other peoples stories of success as fuel to help me keep pushing towards my goals. I know that I can learn from them and know that if they saw success, I could too by putting things into practice.

Work consistently on your goals

If you work consistently every day towards the goals you want to achieve, success will follow. Something that helps me is to stay in my own lane! How do you do this? Its simple, if you see a post from someone on social media that leaves you feeling less than, I urge you to UNFOLLOW that person. If their posts rub you the wrong way, you don’t need to be seeing them. Stay in your own lane! Social media can be a great tool as long as you don’t let it rule your life.  I strongly encourage you to take periodic breaks from social media as needed!
The comparison game is a hard one that can play with your emotions and make you question your abilities. Don’t let it…its not worth it!
Until tomorrow,
